HealthStart has been selected as an AmeriCorps-VISTA host site. Host sites share oversight and funding for VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members. VISTA is a 12-month, full-time community service program.
HealthStart is hiring a full-time Development/Communications Coordinator through the VISTA program. Our mission is to empower children to create a healthier future for our communities through early health education. Interviews will be held in Austin, Texas or by phone the week of June 23.
As HealthStart's VISTA, you will gain valuable experience by working full-time as part of the organization's management team. Service benefits include $946/mo. living allowance, health care benefits, extensive training, year-round professional development, and team-oriented experiences. Members begin service August 2014 with VISTA training in Denver Colorado. Travel, lodging and meals while training in Denver will be provided.
VISTA participants will build the organizational capacity of HealthStart to empower children to create a healthier future for themselves, their families and their communities.
Bachelor's Degree U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency Excellent written and verbal communication skills Positive and proactive approach to problem solving Degree in marketing, advertising, or general communications, health promotions or related field is preferred Interest in child health, making the world a better place, and community service
Roles & Responsibilities: • The Development/Communications Coordinator VISTA will write grants, attend community meetings, plan and execute fund raising events, recruit and work with social media communications intern(s), assist with social media messaging and time lines, help develop marketing and outreach messages, fundraise, write articles, and help execute a development/marketing/communications plan designed by HealthStart's Development Committee and approved by our board, etc. • VISTAs commit to a full year of National Service with a single sponsoring organization (in this case HealthStart) • VISTAs follow the professional expectations of their sponsoring organization & the requirements of the Corporation For National and Community Service (CNCS)
